This is a draft excerpt of my next book: The Sacred and the Profane: The Secrets to Unlocking My “Divine” Intervention.
Recently I got a letter from my College at Georgetown saying that my account was placed on hold and that the help I was getting to pay my tuition for the Fall is being withdrawn as I had fallen below halftime due to dropping some credits resulting from personal matters. I couldn’t register for classes for next semester, and I was so depressed. I couldn’t find funding and had a huge balance.
So, I spoke with the “Divine” saying “how is it that this is happening? You have helped me to get into Georgetown Doctor of Liberal Studies program so that I can realize my dreams to invest in others what has been invested in me.” I did not stop from going to my classes although I was in debt with no funds to pay the balance.
Then I got a call and an email letter stating that they were able to work something out and that the funds came through to cover my Fall Semester, and that the hold was removed from my account so that I can register for the Spring semester.
Before this, I had said to “God”, “I know you can help. But it’s up to you. I’m not special so that others drop out without getting the help that they so earnestly prayed for. But you choose when and how to help. But now help me as I believe you have intervened before.”
You see I had prayed many times before and the Divine intervention I was hoping for materialized, but there were other times too when I had prayed and did not believe at that time God had seen it fit to intervene for reasons, I cannot arrive at but can only assume, which I will briefly lay out later in this post and more thoroughly in my book.
Anyways, I reasoned with “God,” “I need you in this matter. I know you don’t have to, but, it is my dream to get this doctorate so that I can realize my full potential in you and that others will benefit from this investment. It is not just for self but for others. You have helped thus far but I’m at an ominous point where it seems as if I may have to withdraw. Thank you for your help and fix this issue for your benefit and mine.” Indeed, I wanted to give up, but I have experienced the “Divine” intervention in my life before in such a specific, palpable and powerful way. Truly it would be up to “God” as he is than that which nothing greater that can be conceived or imagined. But I kept believing hoping, pressing, exploring, working and going to classes as if everything was going to be alright. And guess what, it was alright, for whatever reasons the balance was covered. Now, I look to the Spring and that will be resolved too.
So, when the going gets tuff and the tuff gets going never give upkeep pressing, hoping, working and seeking “Divine” intervention in your situation. Life is not easy, and no one is more special than anyone else that “God” picks a few so that the few would privilege themselves over the many. Moreover, Divine interventions have many forms and ways that does not mean that God must come from the clouds but maybe construed as coincidental occurrences for those whose faith reside there.
But what would life become if it were always based on Gods’ interventions so that we do not make life what it was created to be, creating, navigating & living. It’s this beauty of working out life’s issues that makes life interesting to watch play itself out, so that the God/s can view the tv drama of life. At times she/he/they throw in a wrench or lifeline into the script to help to help the characters in the drama of life. This is so, to preserve the continuation of the life/drama created to appease the “Gods.” As we create characters for the cameras that sensationalize, are we not characters whose lives are lived out before the “Gods.”
For if it is true that “as it is in heaven so it is on earth” and if it is true that we are created in God’s image, would we not exhibit that Godlikeness in a temporal sense on earth paralleling the sacred. Yet we are creatures of the profane far removed from the sacred and have anecdotes or very good conjectures of faith to amuse our assumptions or they are personal experiences that connect us with the Divine colored by historical and contextual beliefs that support other experiences of this “Divine” intervention….
Nevertheless, like Descartes who cannot deny that something exists which is a mind that is thinking that nothing exists, I cannot deny that there is something beyond me that has connected with me in a personal and powerful way that speaks to the truth of his/her/their “Divine” reality.
Indeed, the huge balance was covered, and I can now register for the next semester. But ultimately there’s much to be said of the ways “God/s” has/have intervened depending on one’s affiliations. But to hear the stories told today of God/s interventions from various peoples and compare them with what we already know of the history of knowledge concerning the sacred and profane, provide meaningful insights into how we continue to interpret revelation and the ways in which we in today’s reality make sense of life or the sacred and the profane.
For when and if we’ve connected with “God,” we shouldn’t privilege that personal realization steeped in human prejudice or personal interpretation of that revelation which was probably meant for me and my Divine connection. Yet we have sought to universalize a brand of Divine intervention as if to proselytize or to create franchises instead of providing a perspective that may help to inspire and advance a human soul and preserve life. For if life is to be preserved then at times an intervention that is Divine may suffice to appease that Divine goal of life and the enjoyment it brings the Gods.
Hence, the book “Secrets to Unlocking Divine Intervention” will explore and tell some powerful stories of Divine intervention today and examine their interpretive roots which will include a study of our foundations and trajectory of Knowledge concerning the sacred and profane. I have provided previous draft excerpts of various ideas that will be included in the book, and you may find these on this website or our affiliate websites such as Academia.Edu and blogspot.com.
Post Comment/Note: After I posted and updated this post for grammar and spellings errors, I happened to be watching Van Helsing a Netflix series and in season 3 episode 13, the issue of #DivineIntervention was explored when a hoard of Day walkers passed by two of the human protagonists and their strange companion who tells them to be quiet the Divine will help, and it so happen the hoard passes without noticing the three. Then at the end of that episode, the two protagonists depart from their transient companion but as they fade in the distance one of the protagonists observed the weird fellow rolling up his pants and walked on water. The protagonists were amused and wondered. But before the scene ends, the camera provides a closer shot of the weird fellow and we see him standing on a water board suggesting that from a far we assume what we think is obvious, but a closer look may explain the natural order of things. That’s the issue with the Sacred and profane. Yet a static board in the ocean water right there would be unusual so whatever the message the show is suggesting with this scene and the imposition of the board does not follow. Yet it provides some analysis on Divine intervention and the sacred and profane.
