Question: Who are the people enjoying the beauty and niceties of the #Jamaican or #globalsouth islands?

It is not the natives or the locals necessarily. #NeoliberalGlobalization has created a situation that has transformed the islands into a place of #servitude for the locals to take care of the #globalnorth tourists. The locals are raped of or divorced from the islands’ treasures and only work to prop up the #foreign visitors who come to play. In fact, majority of the islands treasures and #beaches are sold off, captured by foreign capitals and as such the wealth produced through tourism is shipped to the north leaving the nascent islands already poor, poorer. Only a few local #whites or #Chinese elites take what is left of the profits after it’s been shipped as royalties overseas. The majority black people work for scraps or engages in creative means at times relying on their diaspora in the north to send remittances or look to the informal underground economy. The book “Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty, and Resistance,” and the course “Caribbean Thought” at the Jamaica Theological Seminary explores this and the documentary film “life and debt” by Jamaica Kincaid and Stephanie black produced in 2001 available on Netflix also showcases this actual narrative. If you look at the dichotomy who are enjoying the beaches and who are always working. Look at the juxtaposition of work and play.
