According to the article written by Anna Fleck in Statista.com:

The surge in online #childsexualabuse cases has been partly attributed to the pandemic. Lockdowns forced more people, including young children, to spend extended periods online. This increased exposure made them vulnerable to predators seeking to manipulate them into creating explicit content.

A recent report reveals a concerning rise in “self-generated” content, where children are coerced into producing explicit material without the abuser being present. The number of confirmed URLs hosting such content jumped from 38,424 in 2019 to 199,363 in 2022, with these incidents often occurring in familiar settings like a child’s bedroom or bathroom.

Out of the 255,571 web pages addressed in 2022, a significant 78% (199,363) contained “self-generated” material, a six-point increase from 2021. Girls aged 11-13 were particularly frequent victims.

While the term “self-generated” has limitations and may seem to blame the victims, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) emphasizes that children are not responsible for their own abuse. They continue to use this term for clarity, acknowledging its recognition within online safety and law enforcement circles. #ChildSafety #OnlineSafety (Fleck, Anna.
